These sometimes harmless scenes – photographed in Italy, France, Denmark, Finland or even Nepal – are often tinged with melancholy and reveal the poetic universe of the photographer. His black and white images bear witness to the particular attention given to the details, to the light that models the spaces, to the silent expanses in which a human or animal presence suddenly arises. The strong presence of nature, the mimicry between the flight of birds, the movement of trees in the wind, the weight of snow, the expanse of clouds... give his images the evocative power of visual tales. The contemplation of the world through the lens of Pentti Sammallahti reveals a sensitive, sometimes even lyrical nature. The experience of the image is twofold: beyond its narrative virtuosity, its use of duotones, with immaculate whites, such as the plumage of its swans or its pink flamingos, confronted with deep blacks, creates a on textures and forcefully restores a world where birds hold a unique place.
